Message from the Thomas J. Long Foundation

In 2014, after more than four decades of supporting hundreds of nonprofits in the East Bay, the Thomas J. Long Foundation’s Board of Trustees announced its decision to spend out the Foundation’s assets by 2019. The Board’s decision was compelled by a desire to utilize its remaining assets toward achieving maximum impact in core areas of interest.

This decision led to a shift in the Foundation’s grantmaking and a new way of doing business. Moving forward, our grantmaking will be by invitation only. The Foundation will make targeted investments to a limited number of organizations working in one or more of four program areas: Education, Services for Seniors, Services for People with Disabilities, and the Safety Net. We invite you to learn more about the Thomas J. Long Foundation and its grantmaking by perusing our website.

Current grantees may continue to access the E-Grants system via the link at the top of this page to submit required grant reports. If you received an invitation code to submit a proposal on behalf of an organization, you may also access E-Grants via the link at the top of this page to begin your application.

Thank you for visiting the Thomas J. Long Foundation. As we wind down, we look forward to continuing the “tradition of caring” that was the hallmark of Longs Drug Stores for many decades.
